Off System Railroad – Bridge Inspection and Load Ratings
Garg is performing statewide safety inspections for over 100 railroad bridges, including 1 moveable bridge and 31 underwater inspections. In addition, Garg is completing load ratings on 47 of these structures including analyses of deck girder bridges, deck truss bridges, and thru truss bridges. Many of these bridges are over 100 years old and have historical significance.

Completed Tasks

- Performing inspections and preparing reports with findings per the requirements of FRA Bridge Safety Standards 49 CFR Parts 213 & 237, Railroad Bridge Management Program (RBMP) & Railroad Bridge Inspection Manual (RBIM).
- Complete load ratings for all steel structures. Many of the structures have no plans on file and were as built for the load ratings. The analyses were performed using STAAD for computing the maximum dead and live loads and custom excel spreadsheets for section properties and load ratings.
- Based on the findings from the load ratings, targeted repair recommendations were provided, where required, to increase Cooper E80 ratings. For many of the bridges, this included steel repairs to girder bottom flanges.
